First day of 2016 in Kuala Lumpur
January 1, 2016
On the first day of 2016, we couldn't bring ourselves to go anywhere, so we decided to take the easy way out and buy a ticket on a bus that takes tourists around the city. These same red buses can be seen in London and many other European cities.
We started with the orchid and hibiscus gardens (Taman Orchid). Personally, I wasn't impressed. Not only am I not a fan of orchids, but there wasn't much to admire either. The facility is quite small, although according to the guidebook, it houses about 800 species of orchids, with a total of over 6,000.
A little further on, there's a bird garden with the world's largest "free flight." In short, we're entering a bird cage. Around 3,000 individuals live here, and tourists wander among them. The birds are beautiful, but I prefer mammals, so I won't go into too much detail.
I liked the parrot house. You could buy food and feed the parrots, which flew up onto my shoulder or head. This time I didn't get pissed on.

We hopped back on the bus and continued our journey. Our next stop was the famous Chow Kit market. I generally love markets, but this one didn't impress me as much. It's definitely a plus that it's local, not geared towards tourists, and has a wide selection of fruits, vegetables, clothes, and more.

And that was it for today. We hopped back on the bus, did some more sightseeing and photography along the way, and then headed back to our comfortable hotel.
